It is with great sadness we said good-bye to Daggie on his 14th Birthday. Anyone who knew Dagwood knows LOVE. Dag had many "pet names". Here are a few of our favorites Enjoy

The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this – the last battle – can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don’t let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me ‘til the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its’ last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We’ve been so close – we two – these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

A Special Place
You have a special place, Dear Lord
That I know you'll always keep.
A special place reserved for dogs,
To peacefully fall asleep.
A place with fluffy pillows,
And a yard for hiding bones,
With maybe a little babbling creek,
That rushes over stones.
With wide green fields and flowers,
For those who never knew
Of running, playing freely
Under sky of perfect blue.
Lord, I know you keep this special place,
And so, to you I pray
For one oh so special dog
Who came to you today.
He was full of strength and love,
And so very, very wise.
The puppy look she once had,
This morning left his eyes.
He will be dearly missed, Lord,
This special love of mine.
But now, he will romp and play
In your land that's so divine.
Speak to my baby softly, please
With a hug and warm hello.
He’s a special gift to you, Dear Lord
From me - who loves her so.

I came via Bumpass Hounds and wanted to let you know how very sorry I am about your loss of your sweet boy Dagwood. We just lost one of our Goldens a couple of weeks ago, and I know the heartache you are feeling. I hope you are comforted by your memories and the time you had together, and in knowing that someday you will be together again! Take care!!
We are so sorry for your loss of your beautiful Dagwood. Remember all the good times to see you through this time of sorrow.
Hooo Boy, this is such a tough time for us hoomans who have been blessed with special dogs. Please know we are sending you our condolences and are so happy to meet Dagwood for the first time and read about his adventures and how much he meant to you. The B-hounds turned us on to your site. Lady and I will leave U this, the prayer all dogs have and a few, like your Dagwood, are fortunate enough to have a life filled with the mostest happiness a K9 could ever hope for.
>>A dog’s prayer
Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in the world is more grateful for kindness that your loving heart has given to me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for your are my god, and I am your devoted worshiper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.
Feed me clean food that I may feel well to romp and play and do your bidding to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protest you with my life should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest….and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.
