Dagwood's new dining experience

Since Dagwood insists on dumping his food all over the place we decided to take a pro active stance and find something that would be "dump proof". This doggie diner holds 20 lbs of dog food inside the cabinet and the bowls are sunk in for a more secure fit. Hopefully he won't chew on the sides like he does the walls currently next to his food dish. Dogs and their strange habits....geeze!

2 Weeks after Hurricane Ike

Two weeks since Hurricane Ike roared across Texas. One SCAREY night indeed! We are slowly getting back up to speed. Still haven’t seen the insurance adjuster……would like to get the roof fixed before it rains again LOL! Mike did some repairs so hopefully it will hold. We were 9 days without power (most importantly air conditioning) UGH! The roof needs fixing as well as walls from water coming in (and we were boarded up!), my beautiful hardwood floors buckled in a couple places, the ceiling in our bedroom (about 4 ft wide crack/hole) needs to be replaced and 2 broken windows. The water in the marina came up to a foot from the bottom of our townhomes (we are 16 feet up on piers). Davis Rd was under water as well as some garages at the Wharf had 4 feet of water in them…..unfortunately some of our neighbors did lose their vehicles. Four chimneys blown off the roofs. Many trees split in half and damaged nearby buildings. The condos next door have been condemned and it is not known if they will rebuild or tear it down. Our parking lot was littered with dead fish, logs, barrels from 2 miles away and huge tree limbs, debris and water completely covering the concrete. It looked like a bomb had gone off. It’s amazing to look at it now just 2 weeks later, most of the debris has been piled up on the side of the street and waiting for disposal.

We ventured out in the boat this weekend and the damage we saw was horrendous.

The Kemah boardwalk has been basically reduced to sticks, 3 Amigo's has lost their docks as well as Outriggers (our favorite local boating eatery). 60 foot yachts on top of each other, half sunk and up in residents front yards. Some look as though they are meant to be parked there. We could see one sailboat sunk in the channel with only the top of the mast visible.

Hurricane Ike

Bullseye! League City Texas was in the path of Hurricane Ike. We evacuated to Mike's shop in Pasadena Texas where we rode out the storm. We lost power around 9:00 PM Sept 13 as Ike was approaching with 110 mile an hour winds.

Hurricane Ike slammed into the Gulf Coast, shredding buildings, flooding streets, and knocking out power for millions of people. With winds reaching 110 miles (177 kilometers) an hour, Ike came ashore over Galveston, Texas, as a strong Category 2 storm just after 3 a.m. EST. The massive storm, nearly as big as Texas itself, moved over Houston before dawn, blowing out windows and scattering documents from skyscrapers such as the 75-story Chase Tower, the state's tallest building.

A Real Tortoise and Hare Story

Attached are some photos of a precious cotton tail bunny who has been coming to my patio sharing a meal with my tortoise daily for the past 2 months.

When she first started coming she was a tiny bunny with ears barely an inch in length. Now they are 3" + and growing. She now feeds several times a day and knows when I get home and within minutes/seconds is out on the patio for her fresh supply of greens and hibicus flowers!
One day when I had my Mother visiting this past week, I could tell she wanted to come inside as she was sitting my the screen door. I opened it and shortly thereafter in she came, walking all around my livingroom, right by my Mom's feet, over to the piano and back outside again. I think she was looking for her friend, as I had Hapi Face out by the front door soaking up some sun. Sure enough next thing I knew she was out front with a perplexed look on her face as to how to get into Hapi Face's indoor cage with her, and the plate of food!
